Item 4180 2 Gothic Revival Dining Chairs

Width 17½, Height 45, Depth 15½ (in inches)

Wood Walnut
Country France
Date Circa 1890

These two dining chairs are identical to 6 chairs offered as Item 5116 with the following exceptions:

  • On the backs of these chairs the tracery is open;
  • The backs of these chairs are identical, unlike 5116 where each of the six chairs has a different design;
  • The front of the seats does not have an undulating pattern.

Nevertheless, they could be included with Item 5116 to complete a set of 8 gothic dining chairs the design of whose tops, including fleurs-de-lys finials, is identical.  These chairs were acquired by us as part of a set with armchairs 4180A and 4180B, which have already been sold.

Ader-Tajan, Collection Bruno Perrier Haute Epoque (Catalog for Sale at Auction on April 6, 1992 at the Hôtel Drouot, Paris); Boccador, Jacqueline, Le Mobilier Français du Moyen Age à la Renaissance, Editions d'Art Monelle Hayot (Saint-Just-en-Chaussée, 1988); Thirion, Jacques, Le Mobilier du Moyen Age et de la Renaissance en France (Editions Faton, Dijon, 1998); Viollet-le-Duc, Eugène, Le Mobilier Médiéval (Georges Bernage, editor) (Editions Heimdal, 2003).

These chairs are ideal for surrounding a walnut dining table such as Item 4110.
