| Description |
This unusually large antique fireplace surround or mantel of solid French walnut most likely dates from the late 19th century when it was custom-built for a château in the Ile-de-France and from which it was removed only recently by the person from whom M. Markley Antiques acquired it. It is an elegant example of understated Renaissance or Henri II styling with fluted, Doric columns and a central frieze boasting trompe l’œil drapery around a central cartouche. Hand-carved, it is made entirely of solid walnut. |
