Description
|
This bench is a typical piece of French oak
furniture representing the 19th century revival of interest in
architecture and decorative arts of the Middle Ages, and in particular, of
designs common in the 15th century in northeastern France. With its plis de serviette panels
and carved figures it combines simplicity of style with functionality. The origins of the bench in that workhorse
of early French furniture, the chest or coffre, are evident in the
storage area under the seat. For
other pieces featuring fenestrage and linen-fold panels, see chairs 9340 and buffet 9452.

Uses
|
The bench is ideal for a foyer or kitchen but can
also work well in a child’s playroom (for storing toys), or a bedroom -- with
a seat cushion to match draperies or bedding. For the right space, it can even function as a window seat.
